Outreach into Sheffield's Communities

One of our aims is for every young person in Sheffield to know what support is available for them, and for them to be given the chance to access that support. In the last year, thanks to the continued support of our funders and supporters, Will and Ellen have joined the team as youth workers with a special focus on Outreach. They’ve been working hard to help make this aim a reality, ensuring even more young people are able to access support for their wellbeing or mental health.

Reaching Young People in their Communities

We know that one of the barriers to young people accessing support can be location. We have therfore been so excited this month to take Golddigger Trust support out into two different communities in Sheffield! We have just finished an Un/rest course in the city centre at the wonderful HYGGE café in Fitzalan Square, which has been an ideal place to talk about wellbeing thanks to their numerous plants, warm lighting and peaceful atmosphere! Next week we will be heading to Chapeltown for the next Un/rest course, to help make access easier for those living in the north of the city.

“When I joined Golddigger Trust in January, I was really excited by the Outreach Specialist role. I have loved planning the upcoming courses for the city centre and Chapeltown, helping to make sure even more young people have the chance to learn about positive wellbeing, make great friends, improve their mental health, and receive the tools to make good decisions for their futures.”

Whilst we have held adhoc courses across Sheffield in the past, this Spring marks the start of what we hope will be many more community-based events in the future. The team will also be attending several festivals this year, including the Walkley Festival in June, so that young people (and adults!) can try out some of our wellbeing activities - do say ‘hi’ if you see our stalls!

If you know of any venues in Sheffield which would be available for us to hold one of our courses, or of any upcoming Sheffield festivals that may have stall spaces, do get in touch by emailing info@golddiggertrust.co.uk.
